I would like to learn guitar except I am not planning to take lessons. My brother also knows how to play but I would like a guide just to make sure I get everything. It should be quite long and clear/understandable. Thanks!
guitarpro.com .. you can download the full version somewhere for free . it’s tabs for guitar teaches you how to play music, scale, notes, chords, everything you need to know about playing a guitar and becoming better, and progressing further in your music.
I brought a guitar today, and lessons are expensive, so I thought I could use a guide from the internet. A good one I found was http://www.mahalo.com/How_to_Play_Guitar_for_Newbies but im not too sure as to which option to go for. What do you think I should do? O.o
Thankies
I am sure there are those out there who would say you can learn to be a brain surgeon from a web page.
To learn something correctly you need a good teacher.
Spend the money for a teacher. The web canbe a free bonus.
If after 3 or 4 months you are not happy with the teacher, find a different one.
I bought a new guitar (not electric) and I found it too difficult to learn by myself, unfortunatly I don’t have time to take lessons so if u know any video guitar lessons out there in the web (need to be free) or a CD or DVD I can buy that will help me please guide me …..thank u all
I hear you can look up videos on youtube, just type in “beginner guitar lessons” or something like that, I’m sure something will com up.
There’s CDs, DVDs, and books on the subject as far as the eye can see. I honestly couldn’t tell you which of them are any good, though.
Or, you can look up guitar tabs. My personal favorite site is www.ultimate-guitar.com
Guitar tabs (and just messing around, looking for patterns) are how I taught myself, as well as countless others.
Keep in mind that the only way you’re ever gonna get any good is if you practice regularly.
Good luck!
Can anyone recommend (not just a random website you found on google, but one that you can RECOMMEND) any website that has written or video tutorials/guides/lessons on learning how to play guitar? A free website please, or at least a website that gets you started for free then you pay once you become more advanced.
Youtube my friend preferably a guy named marty schwartz who has his own youtube channels he teaches how to play guitar but other than him just search what you want to learn on youtube and you’ll find it
I can play all the chords (well many chords), tab and all that. I know a few songs on guitar as well thanks to the tab! But I feel maybe I should extend my learning into being able to read music, and possibly “play by ear” to music i hear on the radio/tv.
So should I pay for lessons or should I just buy a Fender “How to play the Guitar” guide?
Is 16 years old too late to start getting serious about guitar?
NB: I’m 16, don’t have much money at all, and if i do need lessons, where can I get them in Leeds because they don’t offer them at my college.
It sounds like you’ve got a good start on your guitar playing. I think you might benefit from lessons, so just try looking around your local music stores and see if they offer guitar lessons. You could also see if any family members or friends know how to play guitar. If they do then you’ve found some free lessons! Also, try seeing if you can learn guitar in school. If your looking at electric or bass then you might have a shot at it. If your looking at acoustic then it might be a little harder to find at school.
Try getting lessons for a couple months and see where you are and decide if you should just drop the lessons and continue by yourself.
16 years old is a great age to start guitar. Your never to young or old to start learning anything. Learning younger might have helped you, but no the less I don’t see why not.
Good luck with your guitar playing!
I had to teach myself tabs online also. I believe i have a gift…? I can also play all Nirvana songs…..
I just need answers. Someone to guide me.
I grew up around bands so……I know how it is.
But they never offered to help me.
I couldn’t say whether you’re good or not without hearing you. The main thing is that you enjoy playing…that’s the only thing that really matters.
just looking for websites that teach guitar lessons or atleast have guides on how to play
Just starting out, you’ll want a face-to-face teacher. There are little details about hand position and fingering that you want to get right at the outset–they’re easier to learn right at first than to correct later after you learned them wrong–and only an expert observer can catch the mistakes reliably.
After a few introductory lessons, you can branch off to other methods, but I wouldn’t do websites. There are computer programs on cd-rom that you can get for cheap (try online auction sites or used software shops), and a good book on the subject can also help.
The quality of your first teacher is important. I’d look for lessons from the best music store in your town–the ones that deal in a full range of band and orchestra instruments, not just guitars and amps and drumsets–or I’d ask around at a local university music department if they offer a guitar major and try to hire a student.
I just bought an electric guitar and i want to learn it online first because i’m having my lesson on july and i wanted to learn some basic now. Please give me the site which is reliable and effective.
So, I have this guitar I bought some 8 years ago. I learned a little on it, but I didn’t seem to pick it up quite fast enough…so, I stopped taking lessons, and quit. It’s sat there for a while, untouched.
The other day, I took it to get new strings and tuned and whatever, and decided I’d sit down and have a go at it.
My fingers still don’t seem to want to move properly when it comes to switching chords, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I also have no callouses on my fingers, so, I get irritated and put the instrument down after a short while.
Anyway, I can’t really afford the time to schedule lessons, so, I’d like to do this in my own free time. Are there any good sites online that can outline learning the guitar for me, step-by-step?
im doing mine the same way, but im teaching myself. you have to build muscle stregnth in your fingers, so you need to spend a minimum of 45-1:30 minutes a day, get you chord progression down then start to do a little fingerpicking, search guitar tabs for songs that are in standard tuning
ex: “horse with no name” “wild thing” “hey there deliliah”
then slowly start making transitions to harder stuff, all it takes to play guitar is concentration and practice…. see if theres a pawn shop around that majors in music, get in good with the guys, maybe they’ll let you play on their instruments. its a good thing to get the feel of different guitars, i mean every guitar sounds different but they all have the same prinicples when i comes to playing them. the pawn shop i work at does the most music and encourages people to come around to just sit and jam; you learn quite a bit from people. hell if your ever around jackson, tn. let me know
I’m planning on buying a bass guitar so I can play in my friend’s bass. I’ve never really played an instrument except a violin like 5 years ago. I’ve been reading The Complete Idiot’s Guide To: Playing Bass Guitar and the Squier Bass starter pack I’m thinking of getting comes with an instructional dvd. My question is should I pay the extra $70 at Best Buy for 4 lessons, get a teacher (which I really don’t want to do because I’d have to waste money), or learn through books, playing by ear, and looking stuff up online. And yes I know I should learn musical notes instead of tab or both
I taught myself to play. I don’t even have any books. I use online lessons and my ears. Activebass.com and Cyberfretbass.com are really good instructional sites. I’ve only been playing for about 6 months and I’ve had bassists with 20+ years of experience tell me I’m good. I think a teacher has their advantages, but you can do just as well on your own.
